A customer can attempt to remove the ice, but it is better to have someone who handles it frequently help remove the ice. Ice can fall from the roof and be very dangerous.
Ice dams are when snow melts due to heat loss and freezes again at a cold spot on the roof, usually the eave. When a dam has formed and the temperatures rise, melting the rest of the snow water will build up behind the ice dam and can potentially back up under the shingles causing leaking into the home.

No, Siding does not need to be painted before siding is installed. Some types of siding is removed to expose the home's walls and start fresh for the installation of house wrap. Different types of siding can be left on, and siding will be installed over the top of it. Painting the home before will not help protect the home anymore as it will be covered with a protective barrier.

Siding will fade over time, however, siding manufacturers have greatly improved their products to resist fading over much greater lengths of time and are warrantied against severe fading. Most brands carry Limited Lifetime Warranties against Cracking and Fading.
